Mrs. Falstaff, AKA the Hairy Eyeball, AKA Kate Sanderson of the Essentials Blog and her entourage of husband, a gaggle of children and the support convoy of camper and van have been reported west of Saskatoon. They will be with us Sunday. I didn’t have a chance to organize a pot luck for our back yard where they will be staying. But feel free to stop by 1046-4th for a visit.
Saturday Noon UPDATE, Is this the beginning of 40 days of rain? And it is forecast to continue through tomorrow, but the coffee will be on (and a big pot of tea),

A while ago Cathy House related how in the ‘50’s she had attended a church conference that predicted that the people that we evangelized would return in the future to evangelize us. It now after 8 pm in Jerusalem and GAFCON, the Global Anglican Futures Conference has begun. Attended by almost 300 bishops and archbishops, including Archbishop Greg, Bishops Don and Malcolm and 700 other clergy and lay delegates the future of the Anglican Church worldwide is being determined by the very people who learned Anglicanism from us.

… clergy who disagree with the Church’s teaching are at liberty to seek to persuade others within the Church of the reasons why they believe, in the light of Scripture, tradition and reason that it should be changed.
But they are not at liberty simply to disregard it.

From Phil’s blog
Dear Friends
I am delighted to bring wonderful news about our Lord’s provision for the two Manitoba ANiC parishes, Church of the Resurrection in Brandon and the Church of the Redeemer in Dauphin. For several months now we have been in a search for a full time and permanent rector. Bishop Malcolm Harding has been serving in that capacity on a temporary basis, with the understanding that we would find a permanent rector in the Lord’s timing, and we have been greatly blessed by Malcolm’s leadership. Our search and prayers have been answered, our God is so good!
The Rev Paul Crossland has accepted our invitation to become the first permanent rector of both parishes.

Well it was supposed to be but it was raining in the park so we stayed in Brandon for services then went to Reg and Heather’s big yard for an outdoor potluck. And there were quite a few from Church of the Redeemer in Dauphin joining us.

Today is the first day of June and soon our children and grandchildren will soon be home for the summer. The end of the school year brings reports cards and maybe we as Christians should give ourselves one also.

Saturday May 31, the Church of the Resurrection held its first fund raising yard sale in Brandon. Thanks to Lynne and Keith Levenick and Beth Kyle we had ample driveway and garage space for a very successful event that goes towards the moving expenses of our still mystery priest.

Marylou and Loraine unpack and sort and unpack and sort and unpack and sort and on and on.

I recall from my time as a member of St. Matt’s Cathedral in Brandon that little if anything was discussed about the upcoming 2007 General Synod. Robin Walker indicated in one sermon the thickness of the documents that were up for attention. Now I appreciate that there are a lot of house keeping issues that really are not a concern back in the parishes. But there are key issues that are not discussed at home first. These issues are not even mentioned to the parishioners first. Now is this sloppy management or an attempt to conceal the seriousness of the issues that might elicit a totally difference response by the delegates if they had received firm direction from the grass roots?
The subject was not brought up at St. Matt’s leading me to several assumptions.
-
The Bishop, Clergy and delegates had their minds made up in advance and were not open to dissenting opinion.
-
They figure we are not smart enough or informed enough to offer input.
-
They assume that most people don’t really care what happens in the church outside that hour and a bit each Sunday. Free cookies and tea get the attention don’t worry about the big issues, they are under control.

The Diocese of Brandon ordained Chad McCharles, a deacon on May 15, 2008. I don’t have a lot of details but Chad studied in Winnipeg and was a member of St. George’s Brandon. I believe he is off to the multipoint parish based in Minnedosa, MB.
